Consideration: A Fighting Chance is a Colorado 501(c)(3) nonprofit working on behalf of families caught in the child protective services, family court, juvenile court, and probate systems.
Who We Are
Consideration grew out of years of work that started well before the organization existed. Our founder spent years at the Colorado Capitol working on parental rights legislation — including a 2016 bill modeled on Arizona’s approach, which would have established a default minimum share of parenting time for both parents unless neglect or domestic violence was proven. It did not make it out of committee. The families it was written for kept calling anyway.
What We Believe
Children need protection. That is not in question. What is in question is whether the systems built to protect them are actually doing that, and whether the families caught up in those systems are getting the due process the law requires.
Too often the answer is no. Parents go into hearings without understanding what is happening. Evidence goes unchallenged because no one has the resources to challenge it. Deadlines pass. Rights that exist on paper never get exercised because nobody explained they existed.
We think that is fixable — one family at a time through direct support, and system-wide through appellate work and legislation.
